About this event: Would you like to learn evidence-based instructional practices for teaching foundational writing skills—including strategies to support students who struggle? This course is exactly what you need! 

 

This practical course equips educators with the knowledge and tools to teach the essential components of beginning writing instruction. You'll learn how to implement developmentally appropriate strategies for young children in kindergarten through grade 2, along with targeted interventions for students with struggling or delayed writing skills. The course emphasizes differentiated instruction, offering adaptable techniques that can be seamlessly integrated into any writing curriculum or published writing program. All practices are tightly aligned with state writing standards. 

 

This event includes two half days of in-person collaborative learning, a comprehensive manual, and asynchronous learning.

About the Presenters:

Kris Statz holds a Master of Science in Education, along with credentials as a Reading Teacher, Reading Specialist, and licensure in Cross-Categorical Special Education for students from kindergarten through age 21. She currently serves as an WiMLSS Coach and Literacy Consultant at CESA 2.

Before joining CESA 2, Kris gained extensive experience as a special education teacher, instructional coach, and district reading specialist. In her literacy work, she is certified as a LETRS Local Facilitator, Keys to Beginning Reading Facilitator and Keys to Early Writing Facilitator.

Kris is deeply committed to ensuring comprehensive access to education for all learners. Throughout her career, she has focused on empowering both students and educators by implementing and practicing evidence-based literacy strategies, and fostering opportunities for growth and success.

 

Nicole Aldworth is the Statewide Early Literacy Coordinator for the Early Learning Technical Assistance and Implementation Grant. She is also an Early Learning Consultant at CESA 2. She has over 20 years of experience working with young children and their families as well as supporting educators to increase their capacity and instructional practices. Nicole spent most of her career teaching Early Childhood Special Education, 4K, and 5K. She holds degrees in the field of early childhood education and special education.
