About this event: Do you have students who struggle with reading and need effective strategies to support them? Keys to Beginning Reading is your gateway to understanding how literacy skills develop and how to empower every learner—whether they’re just starting out or facing reading challenges.
Designed for educators working with emergent readers and any students who need extra support in literacy, this course provides practical, research-based instructional practices that seamlessly integrate into any curriculum or reading program. Gain the knowledge and tools to transform reading instruction and help all students build a strong foundation for lifelong literacy success!
Who should attend: Anyone who works with students who are learning to read, including but not limited to - classroom teachers, special education teachers, reading specialists, reading interventionists, paraprofessionals, multilingual teachers, administrators.

Our Presenters:
Kris Statz holds a Master of Science in Education, along with credentials as a Reading Teacher, Reading Specialist, and licensure in Cross-Categorical Special Education for students from kindergarten through age 21. She currently serves as an WiMLSS Coach and Literacy Consultant at CESA 2.
Before joining CESA 2, Kris gained extensive experience as a special education teacher, instructional coach, and district reading specialist. In her literacy work, she is certified as a LETRS Local Facilitator, Keys to Beginning Reading Facilitator and Keys to Early Writing Facilitator.
Kris is deeply committed to ensuring comprehensive access to education for all learners. Throughout her career, she has focused on empowering both students and educators by implementing and practicing evidence-based literacy strategies, and fostering opportunities for growth and success.
Nicole Aldworth is the Statewide Early Literacy Coordinator for the Early Learning Technical Assistance and Implementation Grant. She is also an Early Learning Consultant at CESA2. She has over 20 years of experience working with young children and their families as well as supporting educators to increase their capacity and instructional practices. Nicole spent most of her career teaching Early Childhood Special Education, 4K, and 5K. She holds degrees in the field of early childhood education and special education. Providing rich, engaging, and meaningful learning opportunities in a developmentally appropriate manner for all children is a passion of hers, along with coaching and support of those working with young children.
