About this Event: Unlock the Power of Language: Join the L3IFT Institute
Join us for L3IFT: Lifting ALL Students to Rigorous Levels Through Language, a 2.5-day professional learning experience designed for multilingual educators, general education teachers, co-teachers, instructional coaches, and administrators.
Participants will explore six core components that support multilingual learners’ academic success, including Culturally Sustaining Practices, High Challenge + High Support, and Experience-Anchored Language Learning.
Through collaborative sessions, classroom examples, and structured planning time, participants will strengthen their ability to integrate disciplinary literacy, explicit language development, and purposeful classroom interactions into daily instruction.
All participants will receive:
- A copy of Engaging Students in Academic Literacies by Dr. Maria Brisk
- Breakfast, lunch, and snacks each day
- A certificate of completion
- 12 contact hours for 2 days of learning
This institute focuses on building instructional practices that raise rigor while supporting language development. Participants will leave with practical tools and planning structures they can apply in their classrooms and schools.
Participants who complete: Full attendance & Submit capstone unit plan

Our Presenters:
Gretchen Lettau is the Senior Director for the Curriculum and Coaching Center of Excellence at CESA 2 and also works in the Language and Culture Center of Excellence. With over twenty years of experience in education, she brings a systems-level perspective to curriculum, instruction, coaching, and program improvement. Gretchen partners with school districts to redesign instructional systems, strengthen coherence, and support inclusive, high-quality teaching and learning.
She is the developer of the Learning, Language, and Literacy Integrated Framework for Teaching (L³IFT), which supports educators in integrating content learning, language development, and literacy within a single coherent instructional approach. Through this work, Gretchen helps districts strengthen Tier 1 instruction so that multilingual learners and all students have consistent access to rigorous, grade-level learning.
Fran Veguilla is a transformational leader, committed to equitable practices that help eliminate barriers for our more marginalized students and their families, so that they can fulfill their true potential. Fran has over 15 years of experience as a classroom teacher, bilingual/EL teacher, mentor, instructional coach, PLC facilitator, and advocate for change. Fran holds a Master’s degree in Bilingual Education from Rockford University and an Educational Leadership degree from Edgewood College. She is a collaborative leader who envisions schools and programs where diversity, inclusivism, and culture are seen, valued and celebrated.
