About this event: The comprehensive workshop includes extensive information on implementation to support learners with autism in both special and inclusive classrooms, use of environmental supports for success and individualizing the program for specific learner needs. Presenters will assist the participants to assess their students and develop a set of instructional lessons and routines to teach skills and independence. Practical, "real-life" solutions to assist educators with implementation will be provided. Workshop topics will include the use of lecture, video examples, presenter demonstration and participant "hands-on" practice.
The two-days will be lead by STAR & CESA 2 consultants and provides participants with detailed examples and practice activities on how to implement the evidence-based practices identified in the National Standards Report (2009). The research-based STAR Program (Arick, Loos, Falco and Krug, 2015), is used to provide examples. Appropriate content connected to the common core curriculum is presented and detailed information on the three evidenced-based instructional methods of discrete trial training, pivotal response training and teaching through functional routines are shared.
Participants will learn how to implement these strategies through structured lesson plans and a curriculum scope and sequence. The workshop will include data collection systems and participants will learn to collect and use data for instructional decision-making. CESA 2 consultants will be available to support with on-going coaching protocols and regional implementation strategies.

About the Presenter:
Brooke Bonanomi, based in Portland, Oregon, is a Training Specialist with STAR Autism Supports who partners with educators through training and coaching to support the effective implementation of evidence-based practices for students with autism and other developmental disabilities. Brooke holds a Master’s degree in Special Education, a Bachelor’s degree in Educational Foundations, and a current Oregon Teaching License with endorsements in Special Education and Early Intervention. She brings more than a decade of experience in the field, having served in a variety of roles including EI/ECSE Specialist, classroom teacher, autism consultant, mentor, coach, and trainer.
Brooke is passionate about equipping educators with practical, evidence-based strategies that support students in developing meaningful, functional skills and achieving greater independence and success. Guided by a commitment to continuous learning and professional growth, she enjoys helping educators expand their instructional toolbox and build confidence in their practice.
Outside of work, Brooke enjoys spending time with friends and family, exploring new foods, and discovering all that Oregon has to offer.
